Meet Katie
My name is Katie Bendel (she/her/hers), and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) offering individual counseling to adults in San Marcos and surrounding areas. I provide the option for both in-person or virtual counseling depending on what you feel most comfortable with, and what will be best for our time together. I specialize in the treatment of anxiety, depression, stress, life transitions, self-esteem, and disordered eating.
A few more things to help you get to know me: I hold a master’s degree in social work from The University of Texas at Arlington with a concentration in mental health, and substance use. My most recent experience (prior to joining Michele Francis Purvin, LCSW-S, LCDC & Associates) has been with Eating Recovery Center (ERC) and Pathlight Mood & Anxiety Center where I’ve focused on the treatment of eating disorders, and mood and anxiety disorders.
I was born and raised in Texas; what drew me to this area was the live oak trees, rivers, hills and (of course) the deer. In my free time, I really enjoy hiking, camping, trying to garden (it’s so difficult), spending time with my dogs, listening to podcasts, and watching TV shows or movies.

If you feel uncontrollable or nagging worry, loss of motivation or energy, persistent sadness, low self-confidence, overwhelm regarding your next steps in life, or feel burdened by your relationship with food or your body, I get it. I’m here to listen, help you create goals, and help you reach them. My therapeutic style largely revolves around helping you gain insight into your emotions, thoughts, and behaviors and helping you learn effective coping strategies. I also use acceptance, mindfulness, and connection to your values (what matters most to you) to help you make meaningful changes in your life. My hope for you is that you can walk away from therapy feeling empowered, and resilient in your mental health.
