Hi, I'm Sophia

I am a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) Associate providing therapy services under the supervision of Michele Purvin, LCSW-S, LCDC.

I have experience working with a range of challenges including self-esteem issues, anxiety, anger, burnout, relationship difficulties and parenting challenges, depression, childhood trauma, religious trauma, sexual violence, codependency, dissociation, and stress from work and school. I practice Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), internal family systems (IFS) or “parts” work, polyvagal exercises, cognitive behavioral exercises.

My Story

I am a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) with an MSSW degree from the University of Texas at Austin dedicated to walking with people in transition - something has happened and they are learning how to cope, they are ready to begin processing pain that is weighing them down, or they want to change the way their life is going. I offer a trauma-informed space to work with anxiety, depression, and the stress that comes with big life transitions like moving, launching a new career, experiencing burnout, relationship difficulties, or having children. I have experience working with self-esteem issues, anger, setting boundaries, dissociation, trauma, sexual violence, codependency, stress, and women’s issues, and keep up to date on the latest evidence-based treatments to make sure I am providing you with the best care possible.

No one person is the same as any other, and there isn’t one type of therapy that works for everyone. Our sessions will consist of a series of mini-experiments until we find what feels and works best for you. We will try self-compassion and mindfulness exercises, internal family systems or “parts” work, cognitive behavioral exercises, or solutions-focused brief therapy. We will also explore the systems that have informed your identity - ethnicity, class, race, religion, gender, sexuality, education, and culture. I operate from a humanistic viewpoint, believing that everyone has the strength and wisdom within themselves they need to get better, and that my job is to help you access those strengths.
