My Story
As a Texas native, I grew up in a bi-cultural, tri-lingual Swiss German American household in the United States and Switzerland. I learned at an early age to transcend the boundaries in a rapidly changing world. As a non-traditional student at the University of Texas, my bachelor’s degree was focused the study of Germanic languages and cultural diversity. My professional and personal experience has taught me to deeply respect and appreciate the diversity of the human experience and value the importance of this diversity in contributing to creating a compassionate, productive, non-discriminatory society.
In 2006 I earned my master’s degree in social work from Texas State University. I obtained my license in Clinical Social Work (LCSW) in 2011 and my Chemical Dependency Counselor license (LCDC) in 2012. After gaining experience working in hospice care and drug treatment centers, I opened my practice in beautiful downtown San Marcos in 2015 and have had the privilege and honor to work with so many on their path to healing and personal growth.
I have a passion for working with young adults who are facing challenges on their way to adulthood. My mission is to provide you with an individualized quality of care by spending time getting to know you and your unique situation before working together to find solutions.
My hope is to provide you with a supportive, safe space where you can develop into the person you want to be and find answers. We will collaborate to become aware of your thoughts and feelings about a problem, and how to look at those problems in different, more manageable ways.
I have comprehensive training and experience working with trauma, grief and loss and with individuals who have experienced addiction. As a psychodynamic therapist, I use theoretically-sound, evidence-based interventions and techniques to help you with your problem. I am trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectic Behavioral Therapy (DBT), strengths-based therapy and I am a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional.
I strongly believe in importance of this practice, to continue to develop the field of social work’s ethical and professional future. In the last year, my professional focus has shifted to not only engage in clinical practice, but to a focus on education and mentoring of competent, ethical, master social workers who are prepared for beginning clinical social work practice.
