Individual Therapy

Let's face it, therapy is a major commitment of your time, money and energy. This is probably a big decision for you and your family. I understand. It's hard to put your needs first, when you've been putting everyone else's needs ahead of your own.

This is about you. This is an investment in you and your mental health. I believe that there is no better investment. You are worth the time, energy and commitment.

To make sure that this decision is a good fit for you, I offer a free 15-minute initial consultation, where you can ask me any questions and get a sense of what it would be like to work with me in therapy.
To book your first therapy session, simply text or call  512-644-9036 or email michelepurvin@gmail.com

How I CAN Help?

We will work together to become aware of your thoughts and feelings about a problem, and how to look at those problems in different, more manageable ways. Sometimes we will laugh together and sometimes cry together. Sometimes therapy will be hard, and you’ll want to quit. Don’t quit. Let’s talk about it instead. You won’t be alone with those tough feelings. You’ll take notes in session to remember some of the insights you had during session or to write down a resource. Sometimes I may gently challenge a thought or notice how the story you tell yourself is no longer helping you and we’ll figure out how to write an updated version of your story.
In between sessions, you might read a book, listen to a podcast, or do a worksheet to get even more out of your therapy. You’ll learn new activities or ideas to build the skills you need to get unstuck. Gradually, you will start to feel lighter, more balanced. You’ll have better tools for handling new challenges, and an increased sense of self-worth.

There’s no better feeling than a sense of accomplishment a good therapy session can bring — except for the first morning you wake up anxiety-free. Unpacking all the junk built up in your subconscious takes hard work, and it’s often not fun.

But it is very worthwhile.
Therapy is very worthwhile

Teletherapy & In Person Sessions

I offer a choice of teletherapy or in person sessions in my practice.
Teletherapy
Teletherapy is mental health counseling over the phone or online. As videoconferencing software improves, more therapists are incorporating this form of virtual mental health support into their practice. Teletherapy can be convenient for both the client and the therapist. Studies have shown that online interventions can be just as effective an in-person counseling.
As long as you reside in Texas, you can participate in teletherapy exclusively, while others may prefer the in-person experience in my office in San Marcos. In some cases, teletherapy can supplement in-person therapy, or vice versa. Each type has advantages and disadvantages. Ask me more about the differences between teletherapy and in-person therapy.
Therapy in Office

Missed Appointment Policy

A cancellation is considered late when the appointment is cancelled less than 24 hours before the appointed time. A no-show is when a client misses an appointment without cancelling. In either case, you will be charged my full fee of $135 for a missed appointment.

For new patients’ first appointments, a no show or late cancellation will result in a full charge of the client fee.

Your Rights and Protections Against Surprise Medical Bills

When you get emergency care or get treated by an out-of-network provider at an in-network hospital or ambulatory surgical center, you are protected from surprise billing or balance billing.
What is “balance billing” (sometimes called “surprise billing”)?

When you see a doctor or other health care provider, you may owe certain out-of-pocket costs, such as a copayment, coinsurance, and/or a deductible. You may have other costs or have to pay the entire bill if you see a provider or visit a health care facility that isn’t in your health plan’s network.

“Out-of-network” describes providers and facilities that haven’t signed a contract with your health plan. Out-of-network providers may be permitted to bill you for the difference between what your plan agreed to pay and the full amount charged for a service. This is called “balance billing.” This amount is likely more than in-network costs for the same service and might not count toward your annual out-of-pocket limit.

“Surprise billing” is an unexpected balance bill. This can happen when you can’t control who is involved in your care—like when you have an emergency or when you schedule a visit at an innetwork facility but are unexpectedly treated by an out-of-network provider.

You are protected from balance billing for:

Emergency services
If you have an emergency medical condition and get emergency services from an out-of network provider or facility, the most the provider or facility may bill you is your plan’s in network cost-sharing amount (such as copayments and coinsurance). You can’t be balance billed for these emergency services. This includes services you may get after you’re in stable condition, unless you give written consent and give up your protections not to be balanced billed for these post-stabilization services.

Certain services at an in-network hospital or ambulatory surgical center
When you get services from an in-network hospital or ambulatory surgical center, certain providers there may be out-of-network. In these cases, the most those providers may bill you is your plan’s in-network cost-sharing amount. This applies to emergency medicine, anesthesia, pathology, radiology, laboratory, neonatology, assistant surgeon, hospitalist, or intensivist services. These providers can’t balance bill you and may not ask you to give up your protections not to be balance billed.

If you get other services at these in-network facilities, out-of-network providers can’t balance bill you, unless you give written consent and give up your protections.

You’re never required to give up your protections from balance billing. You also aren’t required to get care out-of-network. You can choose a provider or facility in your plan’s network.

When balance billing isn’t allowed, you also have the following protections:

• You are only responsible for paying your share of the cost (like the copayments, coinsurance, and deductibles that you would pay if the provider or facility was in-network). Your health plan will pay out-of-network providers and facilities directly.

• Your health plan generally must:

  • Cover emergency services without requiring you to get approval for services in advance (prior authorization).
  • Cover emergency services by out-of-network providers.
  • Base what you owe the provider or facility (cost-sharing) on what it would pay an in-network provider or facility and show that amount in your explanation of benefits.
  • Count any amount you pay for emergency services or out-of-network services toward your deductible and out-of-pocket limit.

If you believe you’ve been wrongly billed, you may contact [applicable contact information for entity responsible for enforcing the federal and/or state balance or surprise billing protection laws].

Visit No Surprises Act for more information about your rights under federal law.
